The European Commission published a Green Paper on modernising the Professional Qualifications Directive. This affects all EU Member States and aims to standardise the recognition of professional qualifications, including medical and nursing qualifications, across the EU. So if a doctor has qualified in Germany or Italy, he or she can practice in Sweden or the UK. This Green Paper seeks to address some issues with minimum levels of attainment in EU Member States and the issue of language skills.
