Primary Care

Waiting Times

Throughout 2010 and 2011 we were hearing from patients and healthcare professionals about cuts to services and longer waiting times for elective operations and other services. We have been working hard to uncover the true extent of how long patients are waiting for the treatment they need.

Health and Social Care Act

Back in July 2010, the Coalition Government announced the biggest shake up of the NHS since its inception back in 1948. Read more about our concerns regarding these changes and what we are doing to try and ensure the patient voice is at the heart of any changes to the NHS

Malnutrition

We hear too many stories on our Helpline about patients who have suffered from malnutrition whilst in the healthcare system. The issue of malnutrition in older patients who are in hospital has been a common theme in our Patient Stories reports over the last two years.

Pain

To many people it will seem incredible that at the beginning of the twenty first century we are still talking about the issue of pain management in patients in the UK. But for many patients - particularly the elderly - living with chronic pain is an issue that they are facing every day.

Patient Stories

In 2010 the Patients Association published 'Listen to Patients, Speak up for Change' a collection of 17 firsthand accounts of appalling care of elderly patients in hospitals. Read about how our campaign resulted in nationwide press coverage and led to the Care Quality Commission carrying out 100 random inspections of hosptials.

Network for Patients

We set up the Network for Patients in the run up to the last election in 2010. By joining together with over 30 other health and social care charities we are able to speak together as a united voice on the health and social care issues that effect us all.

All Party Parliamentary Group

We set up the All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for Patient and Public Involvement in Health and Social Care in January 2011. Read more about how this group ensures the patient voice is heard at the heart of Westminster.
